I made a scent for ChezHemdi and I love it!

When I found out that I could create my own scent at the Now Later Studio @nowlaterstudio pop-up last weekend, I knew I had to customise one for our brans. I’ve always loved scents and it's just the best feeling when you find one that feels like you.

I thought what would ChezHemdi smell like? There were so many scents to choose from to blend 🙈 I tried almost all of them 😂

I wanted something that captured my love for florals and tea, soft, calm, and a little dreamy & sweet and another layer that represented my husband, grounding, warm, and steady (as close as I could).

After deciding on the blend, I even got to pour it myself! It felt extra special to be hands-on as the scent came together.

Can’t wait to use it at our next pop-up. It’s like our little ChezHemdi scent that makes our booth feel like home 🤗

Still feeling so thankful after Public Garden. Thank you to @publicgarden for having us 🤗

It was a full weekend, busy, a little chaotic, but in the best way. Meeting so many of you, seeing you stop by, chat with us, and connect with our little world of watercolour florals and cheerful dinos reminded me why we do this.

Public Garden is always special because it brings us back to why we started: gifting joy and encouragement through our art, and seeing it connect with people face to face.

Every smile, every card picked up, every little conversation, it all matters. Moments like these make all the long hours and preparation so worth it.

Thank you for being part of it, for encouraging us, and for letting our art be a part of your gifting and blessing others. 💕

We’ll keep showing up, creating, and sharing joy, one dino, one flower, one postcard at a time.

When my firstborn asked to join us at Public Garden, I honestly didn’t think he could handle it and I was a little stressed out. It’s really busy, long hours, and I thought he’d get tired and restless. (Nothing like the other pop-ups he's been to)

But he showed me otherwise!

He found little ways to help, entertained himself when he was bored, and was such a joy to have with us.

When I asked him what his favourite part was at the end of it all, he said: “When I helped out!”

And the sweetest part? We gave him a small reward, and he chose to get something for his little brother. 🫶

I realized this weekend that the limits were mine, not his. And I don’t want to be the one holding him back.

This weekend was such a special one in a different way but I am SOOOOO grateful and thankful for everyone who dropped by, for your words of encouragement which gets me going, your well wishes for our business and for all the food & drinks. It meant so so much to us 🤗💕

Last weekend someone asked if we’re bringing anything new for Public Garden. I thought, how’s that possible? It’s just one week away.

But the excitement and love for creating something that could bless you and others was pretty strong.

So here it is, our new floral notepad collection, a fresh twist with summery plaids & our wreaths as well as words of encouragement for your everyday to-dos.

Last weekend someone asked if we’re bringing anything new for Public Garden. I thought, how’s that possible? It’s just one week away.

But the excitement and love for creating something that could bless you and others was pretty strong.

I thought today would just be about showing you our new floral and dino magnets but God had something so much bigger in mind.

Earlier, as I was packing up to head to Toastbox, a quiet thought came “maybe I could bless someone with one of these magnets.” When I got there, I looked around and suddenly felt shy and intimidated, wondering if anyone would even like my stuff.

Then a lady walked past, stopped, and said she recognized me. We started chatting (and I turned the camera the wrong way by accident!).

Later, as she sat down, I asked her to pick a magnet as a gift. She was so happy and said the verse on it spoke deeply to her.

She even chose another one for her friend. She was on her way to meet her, and her friend had been going through a really tough season. She said this little gift would really encourage her friend.

We both sat there, in awe of how perfectly God weaves things together. It wasn’t random. It wasn’t coincidence. It was a divine meeting. His gentle reminder that He sees, He cares, and He’s always at work, even in the smallest details. 🤗

The beginning of a new collection is always the hardest. There are so many ideas in my head that it can feel crippling at times. Today I reminded myself to just be still…(actually it was Sunday morning but I didn't have the time to share it) Just me, finally having some quiet time at the dining table, brush in hand, tea on the side, with the perfect weather to be indoors painting. Nothing fancy, nothing complicated, just simple joy in the little things.

Every collection has a heart, a little piece of me I hope to share. Sometimes all we need is to make space and let what’s on our hearts and minds slowly take shape.

And I can't wait to show you what's brewing ❤️ *Squeals with joy*

Hey friends! Since we have quite a few new faces here, I thought it’s a great time for a little introduction and a peek into our family life. 😊

My name is Hemdi and I was born in Mauritius (ChezHemdi means “at Hemdi’s place” in French), and I run this business with my husband Peter. We have two adorable boys and we live in sunny Singapore. ☀️

I started exploring watercolour back in 2015 during a tough season in my life. Painting became my way of relaxing, dreaming, and focusing on the positive things. I’ve always loved colours, and that’s how I fell in love with watercolour. 🎨

Fun fact: In 2016, my then-boyfriend (now husband!) bought me my first professional watercolor set after seeing how much joy it brought me. You’d be surprised to know that I’m still using that same set to this day to create all of our artworks! 🎉

We launched our first collection of ChezHemdi cards in December 2015, though back then, it was more of a hobby. By 2017, we began creating special watercolor dino artworks for friends as Christmas gifts, and that’s when our unique style started taking shape. 🦕

In Dec 2021, we had our very first pop-up as a business. We were so new to everything, starting with just what we had, and slowly grew over the years. We are so blessed to have met many wonderful makers turned friends along the way while doing pop-ups.

Then in Jan 2022, I took the leap of faith, left my full-time job of 11 years, and officially launched ChezHemdi as a business. I also wanted to spend more time with my boys. It’s been an incredible journey, and all the success and the ideas, I credit them all to Jesus who is the one leading me every step of the way 🙌.

Creating art together with my husband and blessing others through our work has been such a fulfilling journey. From florals to personalized dino artworks, we pour our hearts into everything we make. I’m so grateful for each one of you—your support, your friendship, your stories, and your encouragement mean the world to me. 💕

It wasn’t just a vase… it was God showing His love.

Last week I was hospitalized because of gastritis. Even though I was home the next day, I felt a little low & homesick as I recovered.

As I was chatting with my friend @itsprettywild (an amazing florist) via DM she said, “Just before you messaged me I spotted a little heart on the vase that I made, and I know it’s been a rocky time for you. I wanted to bless you with this vase and share the love.”

She went on to explain what she saw: “The white portion beside the heart looked like a fountain flowing from the mouth of the vase. And I was suddenly prompted to think that God is always overflowing with love, sometimes in the most unexpected moments like my chance glimpse of this tiny heart.”

Her words and her gift moved me to tears. It wasn’t just a vase, it felt like God Himself was showing His love in a tangible, personal way to cheer me up.

It reminded me that His love is real, overflowing, and often revealed through the kindness of others.

Sometimes, He tucks that love into the tiniest details we might have easily overlooked like a little hidden heart waiting to be discovered.

So if you’re walking through a rocky season too, know this: you are not alone. God sees you, He knows what you need, and His love will always find a way to reach you.

My name is Hemdi and I was born in Mauritius (ChezHemdi means “at Hemdi’s place” in French), and I run this business with my husband Peter. We have two adorable boys and we live in sunny Singapore. ☀️

I started exploring watercolour back in 2015 during a tough season in my life. Painting became my way of relaxing, dreaming, and focusing on the positive things. I’ve always loved colours, and that’s how I fell in love with watercolour. 🎨

Fun fact: In 2016, my then-boyfriend (now husband!) bought me my first professional watercolor set after seeing how much joy it brought me. You’d be surprised to know that I’m still using that same set to this day to create all of our artworks! 🎉

We launched our first collection of ChezHemdi cards in December 2015, though back then, it was more of a hobby. By 2017, we began creating special watercolor dino artworks for friends as Christmas gifts, and that’s when our unique style started taking shape. 🦕

In Dec 2021, we had our very first pop-up as a business. We were so new to everything, starting with just what we had, and slowly grew over the years. We are so blessed to have met many wonderful makers turned friends along the way while doing pop-ups.

Then in Jan 2022, I took the leap of faith, left my full-time job of 11 years, and officially launched ChezHemdi as a business. I also wanted to spend more time with my boys. It’s been an incredible journey, and all the success and the ideas, I credit them all to Jesus who is the one leading me every step of the way 🙌.

Creating art together with my husband and blessing others through our work has been such a fulfilling journey. From florals to personalized dino artworks, we pour our hearts into everything we make. I’m so grateful for each one of you—your support, your friendship, your stories, and your encouragement mean the world to me. 💕

It wasn’t just a vase… it was God showing His love.

Last week I was hospitalized because of gastritis. Even though I was home the next day, I felt a little low & homesick as I recovered.

As I was chatting with my friend @itsprettywild (an amazing florist) via DM she said, “Just before you messaged me I spotted a little heart on the vase that I made, and I know it’s been a rocky time for you. I wanted to bless you with this vase and share the love.”

She went on to explain what she saw: “The white portion beside the heart looked like a fountain flowing from the mouth of the vase. And I was suddenly prompted to think that God is always overflowing with love, sometimes in the most unexpected moments like my chance glimpse of this tiny heart.”

Her words and her gift moved me to tears. It wasn’t just a vase, it felt like God Himself was showing His love in a tangible, personal way to cheer me up.

It reminded me that His love is real, overflowing, and often revealed through the kindness of others.

Sometimes, He tucks that love into the tiniest details we might have easily overlooked like a little hidden heart waiting to be discovered.

So if you’re walking through a rocky season too, know this: you are not alone. God sees you, He knows what you need, and His love will always find a way to reach you.

I received a request that broke my heart.

As I watched my husband draw and the details unfold, I couldn’t help but picture the joy of that moment—that one day they will be together again for eternity.

This was one of the most meaningful artworks we’ve ever worked on. It touched us deeply, and we’re so thankful it spoke to their hearts too.

I've been thinking about this for a while and it's been on my heart but I was hesitant because I don’t want to sound condemning. That’s not what this is. It’s a genuine concern for our children.

The song “Soda Pop” is so catchy and has gone viral everywhere. I’ve seen cosplays, dances, reels on social media and now will even be on instant noodles packaging.

Maybe you’ve heard it too and didn’t think much of it. But recently my second born told me that their teacher plays it in class every morning and afternoon, and that’s when I grew really concerned.

Because maybe some parents aren’t aware of what the movie is actually about. Maybe you’ve only heard the song and thought it was fun. But if you haven’t watched the movie, I encourage you to.

I have. And even though it may sound like a love story with a nice ending, it’s actually about demons. Some of the scenes were very disturbing, even for me as an adult.

Some parents might say, “But my kids are not scared.” But the question is, what are we exposing them to? What seeds are being planted in their hearts and minds? A movie might fade from memory for us, but for children, the images and messages often stay.

I am so glad he told us because my husband and I took this as a teaching opportunity to talk to our kids about the spiritual realm and that hell does exist.

The next day, my little one came home and told us that he has been telling his friends, “This movie is about demons, don’t sing the song.” Even though it often falls on deaf ears, I’m proud of his bravery. He even told his teacher.

My prayer is that in these small moments, our children will grow to discern for themselves and be bold in standing up for their beliefs, rather than simply following trends.

As parents, let’s be the ones to guard our children when they’re still too young to discern for themselves. This isn’t about condemnation. It’s a call to discernment.

It was about celebrating little milestones. 💛

I never really liked cooking. It always stressed me out. Having to get the perfect amount of ingredients at the perfect time for the perfect dish, it just felt too much. So most of the time, I stuck to the easy things. My air fryer and pressure cooker have been my best friends.

But this year, due to a change in schedule, I’ve been cooking almost every day. Nothing fancy, just simple meals and on some rare occasions I will try a new dish.

This week, I did something I never thought I’d do. I decided to try fish curry. In my head, it always sounded too complicated, and I was honestly scared it would not be nice. But I pushed past that fear, took it one step at a time and it turned out so much better than I expected.

That’s when I realised that it was never about the dish itself. It was about the courage to take a small step, to try something new, to face a fear.

Just like the food we eat daily nourishes us without us even thinking about it, the little steps we take each day also grow us in ways we don’t always see.

So here’s my gentle reminder: keep going. Celebrate those milestones, no matter how small they seem. One day, you’ll look back and realise those little steps were never little at all.

We had been thinking and planning a birthday surprise for our firstborn for quite some time. We wanted something the whole family could enjoy, an experience we could all remember. USS felt like the perfect choice! The boys are finally at the right age for most of the rides.

But when I saw the ticket prices, my heart sank. It felt like so much money for just a few hours. And just the week before, we had to bring him to A&E for a skin infection, which meant extra expenses. I kept delaying the decision, convincing myself it might rain or that we should wait until he was fully healed. But deep down, I just felt it was a waste of money.

That’s when my husband gently reminded me, “Don’t worry about it. Let’s book the tickets. God already provided for it.” And he was right. During his last reservist the week before, he had unexpectedly received a commendation letter and gift. I hadn’t realised it until then. God had already made provision for our son’s birthday surprise before I could even see it.

It reminded me of something I so easily forget: God loves my firstborn more than I do. He knows the desires of their little heart, and He knows how to provide for them in His perfect timing.

And so we went. The boys had the best time at USS, tired and cranky at moments, but full of joy. My heart is full. Praise the Lord who provides, sometimes in ways that may go unnoticed, but always right on time.

A simple card changed my life twenty years ago!

Someone asked me recently why I chose to have a postcard business. It was the first time anyone had ever asked me that question. Most of the time, people tell me that nobody writes cards anymore, so I should not have started a business based on cards. But I knew my answer without hesitation.

I came to Singapore at the age of 19, young and alone, and it was my first time travelling overseas. Uni life was great, but it was also tough. In my final year, I went through a painful breakup. The girls I stayed with in my hostel gave me a Christian book along with a handwritten card. They were not sure how I would take it because I was a Hindu then, but twenty years later I still have that book and card. I remember how every chapter spoke to me in a way that I could not have imagined at the time.

That moment stayed with me all these years because it showed me that words and encouragement can go far beyond what we can see.

So when Nathan told me that his Chinese teacher was leaving to return to China, we decided to write him a note of encouragement for his next season. As Nathan watched me write, he noticed I had written the word “God” and said, “My teacher doesn’t know God.” I told him that it does not matter. What matters is that a seed has been sown, and one day, his teacher might come to know God.

I want Nathan to grow up knowing that every drawing, every card, can mean something to someone. This is the reason why ChezHemdi exists, to keep sowing seeds of encouragement that God can grow in ways we may never see.

Then I watched the NDP with my family and teared up during the last song, “This is Home.” Singapore really does feel like home.

It didn’t make sense why I was still holding on to my Mauritian passport after so long. But the more I thought about it, the more I realised that letting go feels scary. Letting go felt like losing a part of my identity. It felt like I was giving up on my birthplace, on my roots, and in some way even giving up on my parents.

But with God, letting go doesn’t have to be the end of something beautiful. It can be Him pruning for better things, making space for what is next, and preparing our hearts for new seasons.

Now that I’m a mother, I want to be more present with my boys while they are still young. I have let go of my corporate job to learn to slow down. It hasn’t been easy. Letting go of friends and colleagues and now working alone most days when I am an extrovert has been one of the toughest things for me. But it has taught me to be intentional in building relationships with my boys and the wonderful friends God has brought into my life.

Passions evolve. I have always loved telling stories in video and creating videos to encourage and bless. But maybe, just maybe, I put my identity in that without realizing it. When God asked me to let it go, it was the hardest thing ever. I remember applying for a job I really loved and even going for an interview. But that Sunday during praise and worship, God asked me to retract my application. It was painful, but letting go led me to discover my passion for watercolors and paint and new ways to encourage and bless others.

If you are facing your own letting go right now, remember it is not losing. It is making space. It is becoming. And with Him, nothing is wasted. Every change is shaping you for the good things He has ahead.

Last Nov, she was having a pop-up and I thought I’d go have a look, maybe gift one to myself for Christmas. But with mum duties and all, I couldn’t make it. I messaged her even though we’d never met, just to say I was sad I missed it. And to my surprise, she offered to gift me one that had a tiny defect she couldn’t sell. I was so shocked and of course, super happy.

But we just couldn’t find the right time to meet for me to collect it from her. Every time we tried, something came up, the kids fell sick, school homework, busy schedules so it got forgotten.

Then a few weeks ago, she DMed me again to say she was visiting a church and saw my photo at the book counter. And I replied, “That’s my church!!” So last weekend, we finally met in person at church and she passed me the palette.

I just took it out of my bag today and unwrapped it to use and it hit me. I had just cleaned my table after a creative block, to make space for painting again. And it felt like God saying, “Here’s a little something to make this moment even more joyful.”

What perfect timing. What an amazing God.

She probably doesn’t know this but ChezHemdi means “At Hemdi’s house”. And the fact that this palette has a little house and flowers on it just made it even more meaningful to me. 🥹✨

Sometimes we think that these little things — these heart desires — are not necessary. Especially as mums. But I’m learning that God hears them all. He sees our hearts. And there is no such thing as a small prayer.

He’s a good Father.
He knows you.
And He loves to surprise you. 💛

If you’re in a season where things feel heavy, I just want to remind you, it doesn’t all rest on your shoulders. You don’t have to strive your way through it.

Bring it to God. Let Him walk with you, lead you, carry the weight, and give you peace.

From the start, the idea of painting a name specially for a little one felt so precious especially knowing that every name carries such beautiful meaning. It’s always been such a joy and honour to create something to celebrate the beautiful addition to a family.

But it’s been 10 years, and in this season, it’s been really hard to take on custom orders with the limited time I have. There haven’t been many orders either, and I started to wonder if maybe it was time to close this chapter. It felt like this product had already served its purpose, and I was quietly wondering if I should stop offering it.

So when my pastor messaged me asking if I could customise baby name artworks for our church’s baby dedication, I almost said no. I really didn’t think I had the capacity this year, and in my heart I had already let it go.

But wow I’m so glad I said yes.
Because this weekend, for the very first time, I actually got to see the artworks being gifted in person and something about that moment made me really emotional.

Sometimes when you create, you don’t always get to see where your work ends up or the stories it becomes part of. So I’ve been asking myself, “What does fruit look like in this season?” Maybe it’s not something I can measure with numbers or big wins. Maybe it looks like being more patient with my kids. Choosing faithfulness over productivity. Trusting God even when I don’t see results yet. Letting go of the pressure to prove myself.

And maybe that’s true for you too. Maybe fruit right now looks like quiet obedience. Small acts of kindness. Just showing up, even when it’s hard.

You’re not buried. You’re planted. And He’s still tending your soil. Still working beneath the surface. Still growing something good in you.

So if you’re feeling slow, stuck, or behind—take heart. You’re still growing. And He’s not done with you yet. Let's grow together and I hope this encourages you.

And when I reached, I saw her familiar face and I felt a little better.

She was already there, waiting for me. A customer turned friend who always makes the effort to drop by whenever she can.

She quietly handed me a little note. I tucked it into my bag and didn’t open it until later that night. Her words were simple but sincere and they reached somewhere deep in me. Like God was using her to whisper something He wanted me to hear.

Fast forward to today, I read the note again. And as I read it, it brought a smile and the perfect encouragement I needed. Her words carried even more weight now than they did the first time because today I felt a little lonely on this journey.

It reminded me that God always sees. That even when we’re weary, He doesn’t forget. And He sends people often quietly, gently, and exactly when we need it.

From the very beginning, he’s been the quiet strength behind ChezHemdi, the one who listens to my crazy late-night ideas and actually tries to make them happen (he built my card shelves 🤭 and our display wall!), who watches the boys when I’m at pop-ups, prays for me before every event, and celebrates every little milestone like it’s his own.

You might’ve seen him at some of the bigger pop-ups, the ones that totally drain him but he still shows up. Because he’s always been in this with me.

Have you ever asked God what’s next for your children?

Back in 2023, this dad went on a hike in Jeju to raise funds for a charity. During the trip, he was praying and asking God about the road ahead for his teenage kids. And he felt God gave him a verse from Lamentations 3 — a promise to hold on to.

So when the couple approached us to illustrate their family’s journey of faith and the different milestones along the way, we just couldn’t say no because it was such a meaningful project.

We used a winding mountain path since hiking has always been something special to them. Along that path, we painted the places and moments where they had seen God provide and show up — like memorial stones for their children to remember His faithfulness.

It was such a great time as we showed them the full picture on the wall where it would be. And a full family affair for us too. The boys had so much fun running around, had a good swim, and we all enjoyed a long lunch catching up. Of course they totally KOed on the way to church after that 🤭

Lately I’ve been feeling like I’m not enough. And like I’m lagging behind. Everything I’ve been told says to run harder, push further, and keep going until you grow something big. But the truth is, my days look very different now. Just a few hours of focused work in the morning before I switch back into mum-mode once school ends.

And I’ve tried to do both, reply to messages or something while helping with homework but I end up frustrated and guilty for not being fully present in either space. I already feel like I’m not doing enough, and yet God says hustle less. What does that even mean?

It’s not easy. But God has been gently showing me that less hustle doesn’t mean less worth. That just because I’m doing less doesn’t mean I’m failing. That choosing presence, even when it slows me down, is not a waste. It’s trust. It’s obedience. And sometimes obedience doesn’t feel productive but it’s still enough.

So if you’re in a season where you’re doing less than you used to, or you’re wondering if it’s enough — I hope this encourages you. He is enough. He provides enough. We’re never in lack. And we don’t have to do this alone.

When we finally took a step back to look at it, we saw so much meaning. There were layers, blends, and unexpected moments of harmony. That’s when we knew what to call it “Joyous Harmony".

It reminded us of how Heaven meets earth in the ordinary. How His goodness gently drips into our everyday. How praise rises when our hearts are open. And how His presence brings freedom and joy when we slow down, when we let go, when we trust Him.

It’s a piece that holds meaning for us and we hope it speaks something to you too. A reminder that joy and harmony are possible, even in the messiest process, when we make space for Him.

For our wedding anniversary, we decided to come together to paint a canvas. There was no agenda. We didn’t have a plan. No sketch, no fixed idea of how it should look. Just the two of us, side by side, painting on the same canvas. We just let our brushes move however we felt led, and let God lead the process. It was quiet, a little messy, and actually really fun.

When we finally took a step back to look at it, we saw so much meaning. There were layers, blends, and unexpected moments of harmony. That’s when we knew what to call it “Joyous Harmony".

I was so shocked to see her. We met briefly last Sat but didn’t get to talk to each other. I only remember my husband and I were waiting for our Grab at the entrance of the yacht club, and we got distracted as a big aeroplane flew by and this lady said, “Oh your luggage is rolling away!” 🙈

So you can imagine my shock when I saw her again. And what shocked me even more was when she said, “The Lord asked me to come and I’m here… but I don’t know what I’m doing here!” She said she was drawn to view my IG last weekend after the event, and the whole week the Lord impressed on her to come to the pop-up. And so she came and said she wanted to bless me with hot ToastBox teh in a flask 😱 and sushi for my boys 🥹

Another vulnerable sharing about what's been on my heart lately 🥹

Sometime last year, an event organiser reached out to invite me to a big craft market they were planning for August. It sounded really promising. But the moment I saw the dates, I said no. It was my son’s birthday weekend. And I had made a quiet commitment to always block out my kids’ birthdays.

At the time, I didn’t think too much of it. But just recently, a few of my crafter friends told me they were joining the same event. And suddenly, I started questioning if I had made the right call. I even started to think, maybe we could celebrate on another day? Maybe I said no too quickly?

Then last Saturday, I was at Ten Butter Fingers’ 10th anniversary celebration. She shared her journey and how she took one step of courage at a time to always block out her kids’ birthdays. And when her daughter said her best childhood memories were the 1-on-1 birthday lunches with her mum, I just went “awww” and felt that quiet, gentle nudge in my spirit. Like the Lord was whispering, “You did the right thing to block out the dates! Have courage. Trust Me.”

We usually have pop-ups every month, but there’s nothing lined up in August. I was starting to panic a little. Like...um, where is my pay check going to come from? I even went to check if the event was still open for applications. And for a moment, I thought about applying. So I asked the Lord again, “Should I go for it?” But He reminded me, “Trust Me. I am your Shepherd. You will not lack.”

So after much wrestling and surrendering, I’m choosing courage. Choosing to trust Him. Choosing to protect what really matters, even when I’m feeling scared. If you’re standing at a similar crossroad having to make tough decisions, I just want to remind you that the Lord is your Shepherd. He will lead you to green pastures. You will not lack.

Because the truth is — sometimes walking in obedience means making hard decisions that look like they’ll lead to less. Less income. Less opportunities. Less visibility. But more often than not, they lead to more of what really matters. Let’s keep walking in faith together.

Running your own business isn’t always pretty. It’s a constant juggling act with motherhood, and there are days I quietly wonder if it’s all worth it.

Today I was packing your orders from our Anniversary Sale (thank you 🤗🥹) and my son just lay on the floor doing his own thing. I asked him to go to his room to play with his toys but he came back and sat beside me. He just wanted to be near.

We were listening to K-Love radio as I packed and the song "Famous For" came on. Out of nowhere he whispered, “Mummy, I’m not famous for anything.” with a sad face.

I paused and my heart just stopped for a bit.

We started talking about Jesus and how He began His ministry at 30. He replied, "Wow, that’s old!" 😂
Then he said his friend is famous because everyone talks to him.

We chatted a little more and ended up with this simple but yet profound reminder.
We’re not created to be famous.
We’re created to love others and share about Jesus.

Some people share while they’re famous. Some do it quietly, unseen.
But all of us, in every season and every role, get to reflect His love.

And I was reminded that’s what this platform is about.
Not being known.
But making Him known. 💛

And having the unhurried time to have these kinds of conversations when they just happen makes it all worth it.

Every year for our wedding anniversary, we try to learn something new and make something with our hands. A workshop, a class, something we’ve never done before. But this year, nothing quite fit so we decided to paint a canvas together at home.

We didn’t have a plan. No sketch, no fixed idea of how it should look. Just the two of us, painting on the same canvas.

I’ve always painted on my own, so this felt different. A little intimidating, honestly. It’s hard enough to create freely by yourself but bringing two artists together to make something as we go? That felt like walking a tightrope.

I kept asking, “Is this ok? I think I messed it up with this patch here.” But he looked at me and said, “It’s ok. Just keep painting.” And he meant it.

So I did. And because of his trust, little by little, I started to try new things. I added colour where it didn’t quite make sense. I layered. I covered over bits. I explored.

What surprised me most was how he never tried to fix or change what I added. He adapted. He saw the artwork evolving and kept building on it. We both gave each other space. We weren’t critical. We each allowed God to direct our hands instead of trying to control the outcome.

It really felt like we were doing this together. With every stroke, I felt a little more free. Free to try something new. Free to make mistakes. Free to be me — knowing he wouldn’t judge me for it.

We took turns. Painted over each other’s bits. Added things that didn’t make sense at first. But somehow, step by step, it started to come together.

When we finally sat down to look at it, we saw so much meaning in the finished piece. It was layered, full of movement, grace, and unexpected beauty just like us.

I think that’s what marriage is too. Not about getting it perfect or having everything figured out. But about showing up with open hands and soft hearts. Making space for each other’s mistakes and struggles. Learning to trust. Learning to let go. Choosing to stay curious instead of critical. Choosing love, even when the outcome isn’t clear.

Sometimes, the most beautiful things come not from control, but from co-creating something new together, and with Him.

Lately the boys have been planning all the countries they want to visit. And the list is long. Japan is at the top because my firstborn loves sushi. Then the younger one said China because he really wants to see pandas and snow. Mauritius is on the list to visit their grandparents. Australia got added after they met my friend who came from there. And from there the list just kept growing.

I have been listening, asking questions, joining in their excitement but deep down I felt bad. Since I left my stable job we have not travelled much. We moved house. Had a baby. We have just been trying to get back on our feet.

Now that they are older and hearing about their friends holidays they have been asking more. And I started to wonder if I have been shortchanging them. Social media does not help. Seeing families go overseas and reading things like how important it is to expose children to different cultures.

I tried to talk to them about the countries they want to visit and what they want to see or eat there but deep down I felt bad. Like I was keeping their hopes up when I was not even sure if we could ever go.

So I brought it to God just poured it all out. And He reminded me of these verses "The Lord is my Shepherd I shall not want." And Matthew 6 "Do not worry about tomorrow." Recently we did a commissioned wall mural for a family. The Lord gave them a verse to remember their journey and to mark His faithfulness and what He brought them through.

And I was reminded to do the same. Slowly I remembered...

- Mauritius after six years since our last trip there and a freelance job came in just in time to cover the trip.
- Batam a mission trip where the boys got to serve other children.
- Hong Kong after the P1 transition struggles we finally went and Disneyland was the highlight.
- Malaysia a one day mission trip and later church camp with our community.

We may not have travelled the world as the boys would have wished for but we have gone where He has led and He has always provided.

This post is just a little reminder to myself and maybe to you too to look back and remember what He has already done.

There were so many days I wasn’t sure if I was doing enough. There were many tears. As a mum. As a business owner. As someone who left a stable job to walk by faith.

It wasn’t loud or shiny. Most days it was quiet, unseen — just me showing up again, even when I felt like I had nothing left.

But even in those moments, He was there. Carrying me. Providing in ways I couldn’t have planned. Reminding me: “You’ll be in My heart — always.” 💛

So this one’s for the ones building slowly, loving faithfully, trusting quietly.

For the mum who’s tired.
For the small biz owner wondering if it’s worth it.
For the one showing up when it would’ve been easier to give up.

So don’t give up. Keep going.

I wasn’t sure if saying yes to the big canvas was a good idea. I had saved it. Protected it. Waited for a “better time” to use it. A part of me felt like if we mess this up, I can’t undo it.

And in all honesty? I didn’t fully trust that they’d be “ready.” I didn’t want to waste something I valued.

Maybe we should just use paper, I thought. At least we could throw it away if it didn’t turn out nice.

But then I felt God gently speak:
“They’re made in My image. Just as you think I’m creative so are they.”

And I was convicted. 🥹

Because the truth is I want to raise kids who are brave enough to try. But that also means I have to learn to let go. To not be afraid of the mess. To let them create with joy, not fear. And how can they do that if I don’t let go a little?

I caught myself trying to “fix” their work. Telling them how to paint, what colours to use…

And at one point, one of them paused, looked down, and said quietly, “You said it’s not nice” Then the tears came.

And my heart broke a little. 🥺

I realised in that moment that I don’t want to be the voice that makes them second-guess themselves. So I took a deep breath. Stepped back. (It was the hardest thing to do). And chose encouragement over correction. Joy over control. Process over perfection.

Because this isn’t just about painting.
It’s about building something in them, confidence, joy, freedom to create.

And I’m still learning too. I'm definitely not there yet 🙈

So here’s the lessons I've learnt:
🎨 Starting can feel risky, but not starting costs more.
🎨 My kids don’t need perfection — they need permission to try.
🎨 Sometimes the real masterpiece is in the memory not the result.
🎨 Keep going and trust the process!
